TITLE – To the Breaking Pointe SERIES – First Force Series Book #2 AUTHOR – Cindy McDonald GENRE – romantic suspense, romance, military romance, black ops PUBLICATION DATE – September 13, 2014 LENGTH (Pages/# Words) – 370 pages PUBLISHER – McWriter Books COVER ARTIST – Dawne Dominique

First Force operative, Grant Ketchum, let the ballerina of his dreams dance right out of his life. Silja Ramsay returned to Russia, to become the principal dancer for the Novikov Ballet Company.
Natalia Novikov has a dark secret: her ballet company is broke. Natalia forces her dancers to prostitute themselves to financial contributors at exclusive after-show parties. Silja has been kept in the dark about the parties—until an American financier offers to bail the failing ballet company out. His prerequisite: Silja must become his personal companion and fulfill his every desire. Against her will, Silja is taken to the American's mansion, but before she goes she manages to send a text to the only man who can save her, Grant: HELP!
Now Grant is on a mission to rescue his ballerina from this powerful man's subjugation. If they survive, will he let her chasse out of his life again?

Yekaterinburg, Russia:

A crowd had gathered in the reception room in the basement of the Mockba Theatre. The room wasn’t particularly large, yet it was quite elegant with red velvet swags hung in the archways, gilded crown moldings, and crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. A bar was set up in one corner while a violinist played softly in another.
“It is ridiculous! An outrage! Dominik Potrovic should be included in the auction!” Ivan Belsky bit out in Russian. “A choice, that is what the contributors’ should have! We spend a lot of money at these parties!”
Natalia waved at the bartender for a glass of wine. “I have already explained this to you, Ivan. Dominik is in a relationship with our choreographer, Edvar. He is not available for the auctions.”
“Several of the dancers are married! Yet here they are—to be auctioned as the rest. I understand why Silja Ramsay is not present—she is an American, but there is not excuse for Dominik!”
“I do not understand. You always choose from the box filled with the ballerina’s shoes, not the male dancers. So why do you fuss?”
“I enjoy the girls very much. But Dominik—”
“If you are not happy with our selection of dancers, pull your bid and be on your way.”
Red-faced with frustration, Belsky let out a loud harrumph, and then stalked into the party just as Ballard Crafton rounded the corner.
“Where is Silja?” he asked Natalia as he searched through the party guests. The room was filled with men, a few older women, and most of the dancers from the Novikov Ballet Company. Only one dancer in particular was missing... Silja Ramsay.
“As always, there are plenty of lovely ballerinas here to choose from this evening, Ballard. Forget Silja for now. I will keep working to make her come around.
“No. I am tired of spending time with ballerinas that I don’t want. I only fantasize that she is Silja. I want Silja!” Ballard said.

Grant Ketchum is one hot First Force operative. Cover model, Stuart Tomlinson from the UK is the very picture of the overtly handsome ex-marine. Super muscular with sandy hair, and intense bedroom eyes that any woman would be mesmerized by—he’s definitely your next romantic suspense book boyfriend. Grant is out to rescue his lost ballerina from a powerful man’s subjugation, and if they survive, will she dance out of his life again? It’s a risk he’s willing to take! Are you ready for the thrill ride?
Silja (Sil-ya) Ramsay: After losing her American adoptive parents in a car accident, this tall slender golden brunette ballerina decided to follow her dreams of becoming a premiere dancer by accepting a position at the Novikov Ballet Company in her birthplace, Russia. It was no easy decision. Silja also had to leave the man she loved, Grant Ketchum. For the past five years, she kept communication with him scarce—was it because she didn’t love him anymore or was it because she couldn’t bear to think about what she’d left behind. Now she needs him more than ever!

Into the Crossfire - Author Photo
For twenty-six years Cindy’s life whirled around a song and a dance. She was a professional dancer/choreographer for most of her adult life and never gave much thought to a writing career until 2005. She often notes: Don’t ask me what happened, but suddenly I felt drawn to my computer to write about things that I have experienced with my husband’s Thoroughbreds and happenings at the racetrack — she muses: they are greatly exaggerated upon of course—I’ve never been murdered. Viola! Cindy’s first book series, Unbridled, was born. Currently there are five books in the series.
Cindy is a huge fan of romantic suspense series’, especially with a military ops theme. Although she isn’t one to make New Year’s resolutions, on New Year’s Day 2013 she made a commitment to write one. Most recently, Secret Cravings Publishing has picked up her First Force Series. Currently available: Into the Crossfire, and Book #2, To the Breaking Pointe. 2016 will bring Book #3, Into the Dark and Book #4, To the Brink.
People are always asking Cindy: Do you miss dance? With a bitter sweet smile on her lips she tells them: Sometimes I do. I miss my students. I miss choreographing musicals, but I love writing my books, and I love sharing them with my readers.
Cindy resides on her forty-five acre horse farm with her husband, Bill, and her Cocker Spaniel, Allister, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

My review

I read the first book in this series and found it captivating, so I couldn’t wait to read this one and the author definitely didn’t disappoint. The story travels you between Russia and the US as First Force operative Grant Ketchum, is trying desperately to rescue his lost love Silja Ramsay, a Russian ballerina , who has fallen into the hands of an obnoxious, wealthy American.

This story was very fast paced and at time I found myself on the edge of my seat screaming out, What? Yes it was one of those reads, where what you expect to happen, normally happens ten folds over. Really enjoyed it.

ShiftedforLove-ebook-webWhat will happen when two shifters fight — over a love that has been ordained, and one that is forbidden?

Jace moved in with Fiona and her father when she was fourteen. Tall, lean, and hotter every day, he caught Fiona’s eye on day one, and she has had a crush ever since. The problem is, Jace has never looked at her as anything but a friend.

On Fiona’s sixteenth birthday, her dad announces she is going to mate a shifter she has never met when she turns twenty-one. Zane, though cute and muscled, is arrogant, older, and not at all her type.

One night, Jace finally sees Fi for the woman she has become. In a moment of weakness, he succumbs to her request for “just one kiss.” A mate’s addictive taste is something neither Jace nor Fiona can deny.

Caught by a secret past, Jace believes he will never deserve a woman like Fi. However, Fiona harbors a deep dark secret of her own, a secret that may change all of their lives.

“Probably as much as it hurt me,” Jace admitted. He pulled her in for a hug, ignoring the way she batted her fists on his chest in irritation. She stared up at him, fire in her eyes, and he just wanted to kiss her.

His mouth was on hers before either of them could say another word.

She surrendered, going limp in his strong arms. His tongue swept across her lips and she opened to him, lost in the taste she had craved for so long. Her hands moved to his shirt, and he pulled away long enough to tug it over his head before continuing those amazing kisses. Her hands slid along his back, softly touching the scarred flesh.

“I want you, Fi,” Jace grabbed the hem of her dress and lifted, yanking it over her head. One sparkling comb was left dangling on the left side of her hair, and he watched her grab it and toss it across the room, unfazed. His tongue traced his bottom lip as he stared at the matching black lace bra and panties.

She reached for his belt and roughly tugged him closer, unfastening it and his pants, leaving him completely exposed to her gaze. She didn’t stare at his scars or look away in pity, she just grabbed his length and teased at the head with one bright green thumbnail as he stepped forward, leaving his pants behind. He groaned as he firmed up under her touch. He hoped not to disappoint her, since he’d never been with a woman. She was the only woman who had seen him without a shirt since his mom. The way she touched him, unashamed, he had to wonder if she’d ever been with a man, or men. He didn’t care. By the time he was done with her, she’d forget that other men even existed.

Hi! I'm an author from the Midwestern United States. I'm an avid reader of anything romance! I've worked as a travel agent, nursing assistant, and a paralegal before chasing my dream of full-time writing. I love to travel, swim, cook, and I'm more than a little addicted to a certain social media website...

Currently, I write paranormal and science-fiction romance. My plan is to branch out in several romance sub-genres, but my books will always end in the infamous Happily Ever After.

Always hot, always sexy, my male characters will protect their women at all costs, and my female characters will be...I like to call it "feisty." I believe every story and character should be unique, and it's something I always strive to do.

Reading should be an escape from everyday life, so I hope you enjoy my version of a vacation for you!

Fun Facts about me: 1. I love birds! I have one (a parakeet). 2. I'm double-jointed, which led to teasing as a kid (which I also found funny)! 3. I have a shoe addiction! Mainly embellished flip-flops, but other kinds too (not heals, I'd break my ankles). 4. My review

After the death of his mother, Jace takes off, not wanting to endure anymore abuse from his stepfather. The stepfather loathes Jace, because he is a shifter, a man that can change into a bear when needed. He runs into a man named Finn, who offers Jace a place to live with him  and his daughter Fiona in a cabin on top of a hill and also runs a local bar and restaurant. The only thing Finn asks of Jace is that he works and goes to school.  At  Fiona's 16th birthday, Finn announces that Fiona has to marry the son of another tribe nearby. Fiona is against marrying anyone but Finn. After a  kiss shared between Fiona and Jace, they know they are meant to be together and mark each other as their mates. Jace panics he knows Finn won’t approve, so he runs away and joins the DEA with Finn's son Forrest.

This was a very fast paced story that kept you very engaged. I found nothing wrong with this story Except I wanted more!

TITLE – Clean Sweep SERIES – Venom Series AUTHOR – V.L. Locey GENRE – Erotic Hockey Romance PUBLICATION DATE – Sept.26, 2015 LENGTH (Pages/# Words) - 155 pages/57,500 PUBLISHER – Gone Writing Publishing COVER ARTIST – Reverie Design

Clean Sweep - New CoverFiery, flame-haired Jane Bratkowski is catapulted from a small college town to Philadelphia to become head coach of a new women’s hockey team, The Venom. It’s a life-changing opportunity, a dream come true until – in a cruel twist of fate that could turn into a nightmare – she comes face to face with her ex-husband Tore Ahlberg, the Wildcats' head of European Scouting.

Suddenly, Jane’s faced with more challenges than she bargained for: Will she let him distract her -- and derail her big chance to coach pro hockey? Can she build a team of relatively inexperienced, irrepressible young women into champions? Can she and Tore triumph over the gut-wrenching tragedy that ripped them apart -- or will the shocking truth of their passionate past threaten to destroy them once again?

It was on the tip of my tongue to ask him how, or why, he remembered so much from our years of wedded bliss. Instead, I marched into the bathroom, Pomeranians in hand, then shut the door on him, his tie, and those damned recollections of a time best left in the past.

I washed my face then set to work on detangling. I accomplished this with snarling expletives aimed at long dead ancestors. The boys were restless. I laid down my hairbrush then snuck over to the door. I couldn`t hear my ex on the other side. I cracked the door just enough to peer through. Tore was standing at the sliding glass door. He still cut a fine figure from the back even though he was now in his early fifties. Wide shoulders, lean waist, long legs. The sun made his straw-colored blonde hair look like spun gold. It was time to stop, Jane. I had thought to ask him to walk the dogs but after that Rumpelstiltskin moment, perhaps a brisk walk would do me good. I closed the door quietly. Ten minutes later I stepped out, face freshly scrubbed, hair beaten into submission, and dogs in dire need.

"I have to get dressed," I told Tore when he turned from the city to look at me.

"You want me to leave?" I nodded. "We were married, Jane. Unless you have done some alterations, there is nothing I have not seen before."

I felt a slight flush rushing up behind the freckles on my cheeks. "There have been no alterations. Go wait on the patio. I mean it, Tore. Don`t give me that stupid look. Go."

"Stupid look? I have a stupid look?" he asked, a definite twinkle in his eye. A sharp comment was resting on my tongue. I swallowed it back to be nice. It was only seven am. Even ex-husbands deserve a small kindness from time to time.

My review

When Jane takes a coaching job for a female hockey team,  she is focused on making this team the best as it can be, without interruption. But there is an interruption. Tore, her ex. She tries to convince herself that  she can deal with Tore around and still stayed focus on doing what she does the best, coaching. But soon she finds the attraction too strong between her and Tore and she caves into her desires. It was not the lack of attraction or love that caused their, breakup, it was horrific tragedy. Can they move on from this tragedy and find a way to love again? Or is too late.

I have to compliment the author on her writing style and her very crafty well written characters. This was a very engaging and easy read. I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to more in the series.

Twice Upon A Time by Hope Irving

 Publication Date: October 31st, 2015

Genre: New Adult Paranormal Romance

Summary from Goodreads:

Once upon a time, there was the wandering soul of Morgann, an 8th century Irish calligrapher-monk longing to be reunited with his soul mate. Deirdre was his forbidden love, a witch with whom he wrote a coveted book.

Under her spell, the souls of the star-crossed lovers travel from bodies to bodies until they find each other. Eventually.
That became his quest: unearth her new body and trigger her memory, for she is clueless about whom she once was. Unfortunately their story didn't get a chance to become a fairy tale yet it still turned out as a famous urban legend referred as The Black Angel Book.

Twice upon a time, not so long ago, there was me, rational and devastated Rose. I needed to get a grip, said my French mum after my year of numbness due to a painful break-up that led me to cut my wrist daily, to feel something, anything.

So she sent me off to the free-spirited village of Provincetown, Massachusetts, to spend the summer with my American relatives. And just like that, I wasn’t myself any longer. Because someone pulled me out of the darkness and bewitched me, somehow.

I couldn’t wait to jump his bones… but why was he holding back?
He couldn’t wait to welcome me into his world… but was I ready to question my convictions and acknowledge that my self-inflicted cuts were now healing in record time?

How could I have imagined he was longing for his own unorthodox fairytale to come true? Frantically.

My review

I have read many paranormal books, but never one quite like this.
Morgann is a monk, who has been assigned to help Deirdre write a book of medicine.
Right from the start he is drawn to her, he knows she is the one for him. But he has made a solemn oath to abstinence and the teachings of God, he should resist her. But he can’t. He loves her.
In the eight century, breaking your vow of celibacy was unheard of, not to mention carrying on with a woman who people deemed as a witch, so unfortunately, they are hunted down, not only for what they have done, but also for this book that was eventually called, “Black Angel book.” People believed it had a power of immortality.

So they killed Deidre and left Morgann to die. However, they were right in thinking Deirdre was witch, because she most definitely was and before her death, she cast a spell so their souls would reunite, even though their human forms would die. .

What a powerful book. I have never read something that was so engaging, gripping and absolutely fantastic. What a beautiful fantasy, to know the one you loved you would share eternity with.
This book gave me that ‘ah’ feeling, that satisfied smile that tells you this was a great book.

Noble Deception - Banner

TITLE – A Noble Deception AUTHOR – Veronica Bale GENRE – Historical Romance PUBLICATION DATE – 8-27-2015 LENGTH (Pages/# Words) – 67,000 words PUBLISHER – Boroughs Publishing Group COVER ARTIST – Boroughs Publishing Group Art Department

Keynote: Forced to wed a landless knight in order to protect her home, Moira MacInnes intends an annulment of her marriage to the arrogant Lachlan Ramsay as soon as possible. Falling in love wasn’t part of the plan.

Scotland 1455 – The Douglas clan is at war with their king. To protect his lands from confiscation, Lord John Douglas, the dying Earl of Kildrummond, must find an heir that doesn’t carry his name.

A landless knight, Lachlan Ramsay expects no more of life than battles, blood, and the occasional warm bosom. But when Lord John makes him his heir, Lachlan has a chance at something he never dreamt of—a home. There’s just one condition: He must marry the earl’s bastard daughter, the fiery, eccentric Moira MacInnes.

Lachlan has no desire for a headstrong, sharp-tongued wife. Moira has no need for an arrogant, too-handsome husband. To save Kildrummond they will marry and seek an annulment immediately upon the earl’s death. But deception is never simple, and passion once inflamed is impossible to ignore. Soon they will no longer be deceiving the earl but themselves.

Bundled against the icy wind, Moira pushed her mare onward through the deteriorating weather. That morning, she had set her mind on making it to Glendalough by mid-afternoon (Highland wind be damned). She wanted to leave well before the evening meal to avoid being guilted into staying.

Except now, she was starting to regret her zeal; her new priority was to simply reach the castle’s walls before dark.

One way or another, she would confront Viscount Strathcairn. After a considerable amount of thought, she’d made up her mind.

She would accept his proposal—sweet heaven above, she couldn’t even think the words without gritting her teeth!

As much as she detested the arrangement, for however brief a time it may be, she had to concede that it was logical. As long as he was willing to uphold his end of the bargain and have the marriage annulled when the time came—and Moira had no choice but to trust that he would—then she would agree.

And why wouldn’t he make good on his promise? A man like Lachlan Ramsay wouldn’t want a plain, simple lass like Moira for a wife under more natural circumstances. Any more than Moira would want a vain, over-confident, self-important brute like him.

Vain he certainly was!

Well, he probably was, at any rate. All men that good looking were.

My review

This was a very well written book, you could tell by the dialogue and the building of the world, the author did some deep research. I have read many historical fiction books and can tell you in order to make a reader engage into a story, you have to have your facts right, this is not an easy genre to write for and I commend the author on hitting it right on spot.

Moira, the female lead of the book, is a strong-willed secure woman, which in many historical romances, women are defined as weak and helpless, I liked this, I liked it a lot. When she is approached from Lachlan to marry in order to help the clan, she cannot refuse. Although, neither one of them wish to be wed, they do it out of loyalty and promise to dismiss the vows, after they are certain Kildrummond will stay with the clan. But what happens when Lachlan realizes that he is developing deep feelings for Moira, will he still let her go, or will he ask her to stay?

Second Wife - Banner

Title: The Second Wife Author: Kishan Paul Release Date: October 14, 2015 Genre: Suspense/Thriller Length: 82,000 words Cover Artist: Syneca Fetherstone

If you want to live, you must let go of the past...

Twenty-eight-year-old psychologist, Alisha Dimarchi, is abducted by an obsessed client and imprisoned in his Pakistani compound for over two years. Forced to change her name and live as his second wife, her life is filled with trauma and heartbreak. Thrust into a world of violence and oppression, Ally must fight not only to keep herself alive but to protect the lives of the people she now considers family. At night, she retreats into her memories of the only man she has ever loved—a man she believes no longer loves her.
Thirty-four-year-old handsome surgeon, David Dimarchi, has spent the last two years mourning the disappearance of his wife. After a painful and isolated existence, he begins the process of healing. It is then he is visited by a stranger, who informs him that Ally is very much alive and needs his help. In a desperate attempt to save her, David enlists the help of a Delta Force Operative. Together they find themselves in the center of more than just a rescue mission. Will he be able to reach her in time, and if he does, will she still want him?
Warning: This story contains elements some readers may find offensive: violence, rape, death.

March Twenty-third, Philadelphia The slow drip of a leaky faucet disrupted Ally’s otherwise quiet slumber. “Ally.” The distant sound of David’s voice soothed her, enveloping her in a warm blanket of safety. A smile tugged at her lips. Soon he’d crawl into bed and wrap his limbs around hers, cocooning her with his love. Instead of the heat she anticipated, something coarse scraped against her cheek. When she tried to swat it away, her arms refused to comply. “Baby, wake up.” Her husband’s echoed tone became louder, rougher. “You need to wake up.” The urgency in it made her eyelids flutter, pulling her further away from the dark claws of sleep. Like a silent movie, foggy images of a dimly lit parking lot invaded her dreams. A woman, tall and lean, walked the deserted space alone. With each clip of her heels against the paved road, the haze cleared a little more. Ally’s heart raced when the woman’s features came into view. Long, curly, black hair, dark brown eyes, tanned complexion. It was her. Two sets of hands emerged from the shadows, dragging her into the woods. The taller of the two men covered the woman’s mouth, muting her screams as she wrestled to break free, until the other one slammed a brick into the base of her skull, plunging her into darkness. This must be a dream. Rays of light pierced the darkness as Ally’s heavy eyelids fought to open. When she shifted, instead of soft sateen sheets, her cheek scraped against a cold, hard surface. “Alisha? Can you hear me?” This voice wasn’t David’s. It sounded thick, heavy with an accent and oddly familiar. So familiar, she shivered.

From daring escapes by tough women to chivalrous men swooping in to save the day, the creativity switch to Kishan Paul’s brain is always in the “on” position. If daydreaming stories were a college course, Kish would have graduated with honors.
Mother of two beautiful children, she has been married to her best friend for over seventeen years. With the help of supportive family and friends, she balances her family, a thriving counseling practice, and writing without sinking into insanity.
Her novel, Blind Love, is currently available through most major ebook sites and through Samhain Publications.

My review

This is one of those books that will suck you in from the start and hang on to you till the end. To say it’s a page turner is an understatement, this is a book that will toy with your emotions, mess with your head and make you thank god that you did not have to endure what Alisha did.

Alisha is a 28 year old married psychologist. She is kidnapped by a client and taken to Pakistan to live as his second wife. Her name is changed from Alisha to Sara. Alisha knows she has to do what she has to do to survive, in a male dominated country, she knows she has to keep her head low and her mouth shut, but what she sees and experiences, will change her life forever.

Dave, Alisha's husband, is heartbroken when he finds out that his wife has been kidnapped and goes into mourning. He doesn’t know who took her, where she has gone and its heart-wrenching, until the day he gets the knock on the door and the visitor informs him he knows where Alisha is but they have hurry, time is not on her side. One day he gets a visit from someone claiming to know the whereabouts of Alisha.

I liked that the story was told in the POV of Alisha and her husband Dave, it gave more of a powerful feel. This book is definitely a book I would recommend to everyone.

TITLE – Thigh High AUTHOR – Bonnie Edwards GENRE – Erotic Romance PUBLICATION DATE – September 4, 2015 LENGTH (Pages/# Words) – 30K COVER ARTIST – Eva Natsumi

In this erotically charged novella Kat Hardee becomes involved in the bet of her lifetime…
Being young, divorced, broke and in college, has made Kat leery of putting herself in the path of the next great guy. But she’s crushed on her neighbor, Taye Connors, since he moved in and would love nothing more than to catch his eye.
But her man-hungry girlfriend has also suddenly set her sights on him.
Rather than lose her chance with quiet, nerdy Taye, Kat accepts the challenge to get him naked. This weekend!
To save him from her predatory friend, shy and skittish Kat must seduce the one and only man she’s interested in.
Taye Connors wants to make up for lost time with his sweet next-door neighbor. He’s a man who takes his time and wants nothing more than a real and loving relationship. In fact, he insists on it.
But when innocent Kat turns into a vixen who sells sex toys wearing too-hot-handle thigh high stockings, he has to wonder what he’s in for: A sex kitten or his one true soulmate.
After a series of missteps and miscommunication, Kat and Taye come to terms with who they really are and what they want for themselves and each other.

Taye climbed out of his SUV and headed to the door of his town house, briefcase in hand. He bent and picked up a package left on his front step. Wrapped in cozy brown cords, he had a great butt, even from this distance, and Kat found several ways a day to see it. From her back upstairs window she’d watch him put out bird seed. Through his tiny kitchen window she’d catch glimpses of him making dinner.
“He’s not a nerd,” Kat said in his defense. “I’m willing to bet under that tweed jacket is a lot of man.”
“You think?” Celia assessed him with her man-hungry eyes.
Kat shifted. A second mistake. Taye’s physique was not up for discussion, not with Celia. She was a shark when it came to getting what she wanted.

Refreshing read.

A shy divorcee who is attracted to her neighbor? Kat is attracted to her neighbor Taye, but afraid to say anything to him about it, until her friend gives him an ultimatum, to make her move or she was going to.

After they finally get together, sexually Kat is confused on where to take it next. She loves having sex with Taye, but is unsure if that is all it it.. Will they end up finding what they both want?

This book was a light read and very enjoyable, a definite breath of fresh air from the normal intensity I have found in a lot of books lately. It had enough steam, very likable characters and as the story goes on you are rooting for a HEA between Kat and Taye.

Willoughby retains his rascally charm, which an older and wiser Marianne is determined to resist; Elinor and Edward are as astute as ever, while Sir John and Lady Middleton are as foolish. Mrs. Jennings remains determined to marry off all her associates as before, while Sophia Willoughby is even more sour as the wife of the man she wanted, and Willoughby's friends are suitably cynical rakes.

This sequel to Jane Austen's 'Sense and Sensibility' strives to emulate some of the light ironic touch of the inimitable style of Jane Austen; it is both funny and sad, and is told as dark comedy.

Colonel Brandon - CoverBUY & TBR LINKS

'The union of the Willoughby’s only resembled that of the Brandon’s in being childless. Unlike the latter couple, they had no common interests to compensate, unless an unfortunate tendency to over indulge in wine and other stimulants could count as a mutual source of diversion.

It is true that they did share in common a manner of relating to each other that involved raised voices behind slammed doors, angry silences and periods of cold civility; but this shared inclination brought them no closer together.

It could be further urged on their behalf , that in this conduct, they provided society with the diversion of much talk, and their staff with constant entertainment; - for Willoughby’s confidential valet knew all about his improper pursuits, while his wife’s lady’s maid could recount how Mrs Willoughby had cursed him for a fortune hunting libertine in full hearing of the servants, and of how savagely he had kicked shut her sitting room door before retorting that, ‘Devil take it, in his whole worthless life, he had only cared for Mrs Brandon, and he’d be damned if he pretended anything else to please a scolding…’ But the reader does not wish to hear any more of this.

Seemingly their staff lacked any discretion, and soon enough, the content of the Willoughby’s exchanges leaked out into polite society, which showed still less decorum in repeating them assiduously. Many a man had dined out for a month on his knowledge of episodes that ought to have been cloaked in decent silence, and Miss Steele was one of many maiden ladies agog for the latest outrage.'

'Marianna Green lives in Wales, UK. She has long been fascinated with the classics of English Literature, and particularly admires the trenchant wit of Jane Austen'

My review

Willoughby has always loved Marianne and after she marries another. He marries a woman named Sophia out of need to be a married man and not for love. Sophia knows that her husband has always had strong feelings for Marianne and she despises this.

When Marianne’s husband passes, Willoughby finds this new found hope, but it soon dissipates as he realizes he is stuck in a loveless marriage. He speaks with Marianne about how he feels and she pushes him to forget about her and to concentrate more on his marriage. But Marianne isn’t convinced herself because even has she is trying to do the right thing, her own mind can’t stop thinking about her feelings for Willoughby.

The story of innocence, is the first thing that comes to mind. This is truly a romantic book in all sense. The writing was exquisite and was very fine tuned as were the characters to the historical time. I really enjoyed it.

Today, I would like to welcome author LJ Ross.

Hi LJ. Why don’t we start by you telling us a little about yourself:

I am a thirty-year-old mother of an active two-year-old boy and, before I came to my senses, I worked as a lawyer in the City of London. Now, I write romantic suspense mysteries under the pen name L.J. Ross and love my job! The series, featuring DCI Ryan, is based around the beautiful county of Northumberland, which is where I grew up.

Name some of your favorite authors and why?

I have so many favourites, from different genres - it’s hard to choose! For vintage crime writing, I still enjoy Arthur Conan-Doyle for his superior ability to craft a well-written mystery within a relatively short word count. His character, Sherlock Holmes, is iconic and has stood the test of time. I am quite a fan of Russian literature, particularly Dostoyevsky, for his observations on human nature and the socio-economic climate of his time. I have always loved sweeping adventure stories and I remember being particularly inspired by the richly descriptive writing of M.M. Kaye, after reading ‘The Far Pavillions.’ In terms of everyday reading, I’ve enjoyed some of Nora Roberts’ standalone romantic suspense novels, such as ‘The Reef’, or ‘Northern Lights’.

When did you decide to become an author?

I’m a firm believer that a person is capable of being many things during the course of a lifetime. After a fairly intense period of academic study, followed by another intense period of work in one of the world’s major capital cities, I felt that it was time to explore a more creative side to myself. I’d always loved to read and ‘fall into a story’ and I started to wonder if, after all this reading, I might be able to write something myself. It wasn’t until the birth of my son that I really made a serious change and started to write. It is a great lifestyle option for a working mother, because it allows me to be flexible and to work around his needs, without forsaking my own. My husband and family were all very supportive, which helped enormously.

What inspired you to become an author?

I wondered about the possibility of writing as a career for a while before I began seriously putting pen to paper. Although there are anti-discrimination laws and regulations in place to allow working mothers to continue their careers, in my experience I found that women were inevitably forced to compromise somewhere, in reality. When my husband and I decided to start a family, I knew that I didn’t want to be forced to compromise either on my child’s care, or on my career prospects – why can’t women have it all? So, you might say it was my son who inspired me to become an author, because I wanted to be the best mother I could be: a happy one, who could be there for him when he needed me as well as setting a positive example of womanhood.

Do you have any advice for other aspiring authors?

Don’t procrastinate! Keep going! Writing is hard work, a big investment of your time and requires a thick skin to take on board critique and the inevitable mixed bag of reviews (even the greatest writers can’t please everyone!). But, you must grasp the moment with both hands and ‘give it a go’. If you don’t you’ll regret never trying or, worse still, trying but never releasing your work into the world. Remember that first and foremost, you are writing to please yourself, but that doesn’t mean that others won’t have useful comments to make and it makes good sense to listen to them.

Any hobbies?

I used to be very sporty as a child and I still enjoy running. Aside from reading (other people’s work, when I have time!), I love dancing and all forms of music. I usually keep a small sketchbook in my bag and I try to find time to paint whenever I can.

What is your most sinful craving?

Cake…passion fruit daiquiris…chocolate (every kind)…various Hollywood actors…oh, wait, you only asked for one!

Haha! I certainly can relate to that, I have many guilty pleasures myself.

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview.

I was so intrigued by LJ Ross, I decided to check out not one but two of her books.

My reviews are below.

My review

DCI Maxwell Ryan had been hiding away on the island of Lindisfarne, taking some time off from his job. When Lucy Mathieson’s body is found on The Priory, he finds himself launched into a strange murder investigation. Further investigating the body, he notices how clean it is, besides a gash on her forehead and also that the body has been staged, as if it was being set up for a ceremonial ritual of some sort.

Anna Taylor, a specialist in ceremonial rituals has been called in to help on the case. She is a little hesitant, because this island at one time was her home and her reason for running was because of her sister Megan and an argument that has kept them emancipated for years.

When Ryan and Anna are able to sit down and go through photographs, Anna explains to him that sign carved into Lucy, looks that of a Pagan sign of femininity. More bodies begin to show up and as the investigation deepens so does the attraction between Ryan and Anna. But with everything going on they surely wouldn’t consider taken their attraction father than they should? Would they?

First I would like to say what the hell? That ending had me spinning. Second, I would like to say that this is most definitely not my type of read, but the writing, the characters had me engaged completely from start to finish. So I must say this is definitely a read for everyone.

My review

'Come out, come out, wherever you are.'

I am not one for prologues, but found in reading this book by LJ Ross, it was necessary to read it. It starts during the Summer Solstice, Amy is gazing out into the valley near a large Sycamore tree, when footsteps startle her and turns to see a man standing there. It is a man that Amy has been close to at one time. When he tries to kiss her, she pulls away realizing the attraction she once had for this man is lost. Her lack of affection, angers him and the man goes into a fiery rage and they exchange words. When she tells him that he is mad, his arm shoots out and grabs her by the wrist with such force, it breaks.

The story reintroduces DCI Ryan and his lover Anna. I enjoyed these two characters in the first book and really loved them in the second. There were a lot of questions left in my mind after the first, that were answered in this one. Like, Why was Ryan on Holy Island in the first place? And exactly why was he prescribed Xanax? These were clues that were left unanswered in the first, but were defined with answers in the second. The premise of this book was amazing, the clues stragetically placed for you to wander with as you read on. I thought the first one was good, but the second one is even better.

Author Bio

Louise was born and grew up in Northumberland. She completed undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Law at King's College London, where she met her husband, and she continued her studies in Paris and Florence. After spending most of her twenties working in the City as a lawyer, she began to feel it was time for change.

After the birth of her son, she wrote the first draft of Holy Island, having been inspired by the atmospheric beauty of the real island of Lindisfarne, a place she knew well from childhood. Following its success, she now writes full-time. The second book in her series of DCI Ryan novels, Sycamore Gap, showcases another part of the region: this time, Hadrian's Wall country.

She lives with her husband and son in the South of England, but visits Northumberland regularly, where she enjoys walking and building sandcastles on the beach with her son and reading other people's books! She likes to travel and spend time with good friends and family, dancing to 80's music (singing, badly...), watching old black-and-white movies, drinking coffee and eating cake.

Broken Pride - CoverBOOK SYNOPSIS

In a future filled with warring factions, one young woman must risk everything to be reunited with the man she loves.

Despised for the name she bears, and trapped behind enemy lines, she knows her life and the lives of those she loves rests on her choosing her allies wisely.

Yet, in a world where greed is rampant and only the strong survive, how can she find the courage to trust again?

Suddenly he knew exactly what the next few minutes would bring. They find the first body slumped against the wall of one of the outer buildings. The young man, little more than a boy, is propped up at an awkward angle, his face frozen into an expression filled with so much fear that it was difficult to look at him. And then there was more. More bodies, more blood, more horror than Ryder can take in. He feels sick to his stomach and, for a few moments, he is a teenage boy again picking through the dead carcasses that had littered the Kelly compound. He shakes his head, trying to bring his focus back to the present. Bodies litter the streets and hang over thresholds. He blinks the sweat running into his eyes away, trying not to dwell on the death that surrounds him. He couldn’t think about the awfulness, about the fact that most of the dead were so young. They break into the square, yet by then Ryder had known what they would find. Val swears and when Ryder looks across at him it is to find that his sardonic, ever smug half-brother looks like he is going to be sick. “What the… how the hell did they do this?” Val splutters, lifting his hand to his head and looking around wildly. “How did the Lewises manage to do this? We were right here for goodness sake! How did we not know this was happening?” Ryder doesn’t answer him. He had no answers, just the sickness that rolled around his stomach. Beside him Connell turns and vomits on to the ground. Ryder isn’t surprised to see one of the hard-bitten Andak soldiers displaying such weakness. He was pretty close to joining him in heaving out the contents of his own stomach. Out of the corner of his eye he catches sight of a movement and lifts his gun warningly. Ian sits in the dust outside one of the hovels the Brownelys called homes. It takes Ryder a minute to realise that it was Ian’s house, the same one he had seen him standing in the doorway of yesterday. He moves forward, ready to offer assistance. It wasn’t until he was much closer that he became aware of the fact that Ian clutched a lifeless body in his arms.

Hi everyone, My name is DeeDee and I live in a beautiful part of Devon, England, with my family. I’ve always loved to read, and I’ve never been picky about which genre I read in. I’m just as happy curled up with a regency romance as I am with a dystopian adventure. When I first wrote Broken City I had no idea that it would turn in to a series, but Deeta’s story begged to be told. So the stand alone Broken City became a trilogy, and now I know there will be a forth book as well. I also write in other genres, I have a series of contemporary comedic short stores (The Claire series). I also have a historical romance series (The Lady Quill Chronicles), and a dystopian adventure series (The Chronicles of Discord). I really hope that you enjoy reading my stories as much as I enjoy writing them!

My review

I read the first two books and I like the way the author shoves us right into story, picking up where she had left off on the last book.

As we learned in the first two books, Deeta, was sheltered by her father and Tom, from all the bad in the world. Open to the world now, she has to suffer through the reality that life is not wonderful, that bad things happen and people are not what they seem. including people. That people fight, they hate and they lie to get what they want, that no one can be trusted, no one.

Tom’s objective is not to give up that he has to fight, live to make sure that his wife and family is safe and taken care of.

This third book was good. I like the way that the author thrust Deeta into the real word, making her realize the harsh reality of what life it and how people are.
